Police across the country are struggling to stop celebrities and residents of wealthy neighborhoods from hosting massive mansion parties drawing hundreds of guests despite the ongoing pandemic and concern that these are “super-spreader” events driving an uptick in cases.

KEY FACTS

Parties busted in recent weeks have ended in arrests, apologies and even casualties, with police reporting dozens of events violating coronavirus social distancing rules. 

One person was killed and two critically injured after gunfire—police suspect to be gang-related—erupted at a large mansion party thrown for an unidentified NFL player in Los Angeles on Monday, which chopper footage shows police responding to earlier in the night.

The day before, the captain and owners of a Manhattan party boat were arrested for violating social distancing mandates on a crowded booze cruise.
