“Jeopardy!” will continue its “vault” series at 7:30 tonight on CBS by showing the very first celebrity tournament in 1992.
The show featured celebrities Carol Burnett, Donna Mills and Regis Philbin.
According to The Paley Center for Media, Burnett was playing for AMFAR, Mills for Earth Communications Office and Philbin for his alma mater, Cardinal Hayes High School in the Bronx. Each group received $10,000 although each celebrity won significantly less than that in the tournament.
According to “Jeopardy!” the celebrity tournaments have been “a fan favorite.”
“In 115 episodes, public figures from entertainment, sports, news and politics came together to compete for the benefit of their favorite charities. Through these competitions, over $9 million has been given to great causes.
