(Aug. 8, 2020) Nantucket Cottage Hospital is still relying on the Boston Pops to help in its fundraising efforts this year. It is more crucial than ever since visitations came to a near standstill this spring due to coronavirus restrictions, NCH leaders said.

But there will be no live concert with thousands flocking to Jetties Beach this weekend. Like so many other major summer events, the Pops is going virtual.

COVID-19 restrictions have limited the services the hospital could provide. It’s a trend that played out nationwide, and many hospitals across the country were forced to lay off staff as a result. While NCH has not had to lay anyone off because of deficit shortfalls, president and CEO Gary Shaw said it has not been immune to the drop in patient volume.
