Few of us would disagree that the year 2020 will be recorded as the worst year in recorded history. Fire, heat, ugly politics, the economy and the big one: COVID-19. Then there is uncertainty about our elections, sorting out the truth about foreign interference, and the list goes on …
Any one of these issues could overwhelm our coping skills when it’s unrelenting.
All of us need a rudder to guide us through the storm, something we hold sacred to ground us and keep us hopeful. Our choice of religious, spiritual or other sources of strength gives us the ethical and moral compass to give our lives structure. But no one is perfect — not Trump, not Biden, not George Washington or Abraham Lincoln. Leadership and power carries a heavy responsibility to the voters who put our elected officials in office. It’s reasonable to expect honesty and the will to do the right thing.
