Before this coronavirus situation, I’d often drive over to Alex and have coffee with my good friend, Fred, at the Coffee Pot. Or, sometimes we’d meet at Northwoods. And we’d talk politics.
Fred is a good, loyal Republican. He still wears his “I like Ike” button proudly. Fred argues taxes are too high. And that government is too big.
As for me, I’m one of those “independent persuadables.” I’m not excited about one party’s presidential candidates for this November, and deeply troubled by the other.
By our second cup of coffee, we’d begin to find agreement when we talk about issues. We agreed our medical insurance system is a mess: complicated, confusing and expensive. We both support some version of a Medicare for All plan.
