HARTFORD — Less than a minute into Saturday’s game against Loudoun United FC, it looked like Hartford Athletic midfielder Arthur Rogers’ night was already over as he lay on Dillon Stadium’s turf.
“I was very hyped up,” Rogers said. “I probably went for a ball that I had no reason of going for, and I fell funny on my shoulder. I felt like a little click, and it was kind of just dead for a minute.”
But the Englishman dusted himself off and scored the first goal of his professional career to ignite Hartford’s 2-1 comeback win. The goal came in the 17th minute and tied the game.
“To be honest, in the warmup I hit a few good ones,” Rogers said. “I’m wearing a somewhat newer pair of boots, so that always psychologically tricks you into thinking ‘oh, maybe I can shoot.’ So, any chance I got, I thought ‘let me have a go and test this keeper.’ Luckily, it flew right in.”
